Cinépolis India to accept payments through QR Code Scan
Cinépolis, India’s 1st international and the world’s 2nd largest movie theatre circuit, is the first multiplex chain in India to enable payment acceptance through QR Code scan and pay option under its existing Unified Payment Interface (UPI) payment collection mode. This is being offered across all its multiplexes in India.
This initiative will help the patrons to pay through any UPI App/UPI enabled Bank App by scanning the QR Code at the Box Office and Food & Beverage counters of Cinépolis India. This payment solution is implemented in collaboration with HSBC Bank across all Cinépolis India outlets.
Earlier last year in April, Cinépolis India and HSBC Bank had joined hands to enable payment acceptance through UPI mode, operating on the concept of VPA across all its multiplexes in the country. Now, as a next push towards the digital economy, Cinépolis India and HSBC Bank have launched QR Code scan and pay option under the existing UPI payment acceptance mode to smoothen the transaction flow and for better customer experience.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Devang Sampat, Director – Strategic Initiatives, Cinépolis India said, UPI will smoothly allow the transaction both at the Box Office and Food & Beverage counters of Cinépolis India. Patrons can now experience the faster checkout at the counters by using scan & pay feature of UPI and enjoy the unparalleled service.
Mr Rodrigo Perez Morales, CFO, Cinépolis India further added “With a strong drive of encouraging digital transactions, we are delighted to offer the upgraded service for transactions and enable payment acceptance through UPI QR Code scan & pay option. We are hopeful that we will have a phenomenal response and all our customers will gradually adapt to Unified Payment Interface. In future, we will keep on adding the new digital mode of payments at Cinépolis to give our patrons more options to transact digitally.” With this particular initiative, we are stepping towards a cashless and digitally growing economy and better services to our valued patrons.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Divyesh Dalal, Head Global Liquidity and Cash Management, HSBC India said, “We are happy that our UPI solution has helped provide a seamless experience to Cinepolis patrons. We are constantly trying to enhance our offerings through the UPI platform in an endeavour to remain at the forefront of innovations in fintech. Our UPI offering, aimed at providing a channel agnostic collection solution to corporates, will enable Cinepolis to drive sales through increased digitisation of flows,”
A dynamic QR code will be generated electronically on the EDC machine screen at Box office and F&B counters of Cinépolis India and consumers will be able to make payments through any UPI App by scanning a dynamic QR Code. This solution will enable quicker checkout by reducing the number of steps consumer goes through to make a payment. This particular move is expected to play a vital role in driving transactions that are more cashless.
