The launch is in line with Pepperfry’s aim to build the largest big-box logistics network in India and particularly strengthen its services in South India, which contributes to 40% of the marketplace’s overall business.
Pepperfry, India’s No.1 furniture and home products marketplace, has launched its first ever built-to-suit home and furniture warehouse in Bangalore. This highly automated and tech-led warehouse, located in Hoskote area, is spread across 3,60,000 sq. ft. – making it the largest built-to-suit facility in the segment, in India. The launch is in line with Pepperfry’s aim to build the largest big-box logistics network in India and particularly strengthen its services in South India, which contributes to 40% of the marketplace’s overall business.
South India forms the biggest market for Pepperfry and the facility will thereby help the company provide Best-in-class services to its customers. The facility is located along the highway and is equidistant from key demand centres in Bangalore, which results in a reduction in overall transit time and long-haul movement cost across markets, as well as allows hassle-free movement of vehicles. This improved infrastructure will also ensure overall customer experience will go up with faster delivery rates.
The home and furniture segment is a category with big-ticket and bulky products, which require facilities that allow the use of airspace such that products can be stacked to maximize utilization of the floor space. The warehouse therefore has a clear height of 12 meters with VNA type flooring, roof insulation, ridge louvers for ventilation, motorized rolling shutters for docks, fire hydrant and sprinklers with fire NOC, a sewage treatment plant and premium wall fencing.
Talking about the launch Ashish Shah, Founder & COO, Pepperfry said “Pepperfry is as much a logistics company as it is a furniture marketplace. Pursuant to our aim to build India’s largest big-box infrastructure, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our fourth state-of-the-art warehouse. Located in Bangalore, it is the largest technologically advanced and custom made home and furniture warehouse in the country.”
He further added “South India is the largest market for us with a 40 percent contribution to our overall business, and the new warehouse will help us augment our business from the region. It will allow us to elevate consumer experiences through reduced transit times while growing the business through reduced overhead costs. This will also help us cater to the surge in demand during the approaching festive season.”
Pepperfry pioneered the big-box logistics network in India and was the first furniture marketplace to build their own logistics network in 2013. This has helped the marketplace in not only rationalizing time and costs but also overcoming sectoral challenges around damages and handling issues. Today, Pepperfry has India’s largest B2C last mile delivery with over 400 trucks, a team of 250 carpenters and 19 hubs across the country. They cater to 500+ cities across the nation, with an aim to reach 1000+ cities by 2021.
