MCCI launches CSR Awards

Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry creates a platform to showcase great collaboration between NGOs and Corporates

The Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), the oldest Chamber of  Southern India had its 182 nd Annual General Body Meeting on the 2 nd August 2018. During this meeting, the Chamber presented the MCCI CSR Awards 2018 to showcase highly impactful collaborative projects in Tamil Nadu. MCCI established this award for the first time and the current year awards were supported by TAFE. According to Ms. Rajshree Natarajan, these awards were for collaborative projects of Corporate and NGOs which exhibited high levels of synergy, social impact, innovation, sustainability, and replicability. Madras School of Social work was entrusted the job of evaluating the applications and the final selection was made by an eminent jury of six members.

The V-Excel Educational Trust and Grundfos India were accredited as the winner for their Thozhi Project. The National Agro Foundation & BNY Mellon and Exnora and ITC were selected as the runners for their projects ‘Flood Relief and Rehabilitation’ and ‘Green Temple’ Project respectively.

We are especially happy to jointly receive it with Grundfos India, an actively and enthusiastically involved partner in this initiative. Thozhifocuses on the production of low cost sanitary napkins produced by young adults with special needs.

Mahathi Parashuram, Regional Head – Public Affairs, Communications & Relations, Asia Pacific Region, Grundfos, said “We are very happy to have jointly received this award with our NGO partner, V-Excel Educational Trust won this award. The Thozhi initiative is a good example of collaboration between an NGO and a corporate to address key issues like skill development and livelihood options for differently abled youth as well as low-cost hygiene products for underprivileged women and girls.”
