GMR led Hyderabad International Airport has won an “Excellent Energy Efficient Unit” Award at the 19th National Award Ceremony for ‘Excellence’ in Energy Management organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The award was received by Vijay Rathod, Head – Passenger Terminal Building – Engineering on behalf of GHIAL from Ajay Mishra, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Energy and Social Welfare, Government of Telangana and Pankaj Kumar, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency amidst the presence of other dignitaries and participants.
Speaking on this recognition, SGK Kishore, CEO, GHIAL, said, “We are happy to receive the award. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to serve passengers and is testimony of our efforts to the make the best use of the energy resources available. As a responsible corporate citizen, GHIAL is committed to exploring best-in-class energy efficient solutions. As a part of our #PassengerisPrime programme, we have deployed several eco-friendly measures viz. electric-powered buggies, ground handler vehicles, baggage trolley movers, e-cars among others to name a few.”
The CII 19th National Award for ‘Excellence’ in Energy Management Programme was organized from 29th to 31st August. The annual forum recognizes the companies engaged in energy-efficiency initiatives that adopt best practices and technological advancement in their daily operations and are judged on many parameters of energy efficiency and various measures adopted. GHIAL has been at the forefront of adopting energy efficiency practices and this has led to recognitions at various industry platforms.
Over the last three years energy efficiency measures taken at GHIAL have led to a substantial energy saving of around 15.9 MU, while leading to a rapid decline in the GHG emissions at the airport. The jury, CII members and industry delegates appreciated the initiatives of GHIAL.
GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is a joint venture company promoted by the GMR Group (63%) in partnership with Airports Authority of India (13%), Government of Telangana (13%) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (11%). The Company was incorporated to design, finance, build, operate and maintain a world class Greenfield airport at Shamshabad, Hyderabad. Hyderabad airport was commissioned in a record time of 31 months in March 2008, with an initial capacity of 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and 1,50,000 MT of cargo handling capacity per annum. The Project has the flexibility to increase capacity to accommodate over 40 MPPA and shall be developed in a phased manner.
